COOL OFF

No, I’m not yelling. Just really interested and heartened to see so many farmers and ranchers going up against Big Food in the fight over this year’s (well, really last year’s) new Farm Bill.

There are “Opportunities for Fairness in Farming (OFF)” bills sitting with both the Senate and House Ag Committees, which would limit the ability of big industry players to control the billion or so bucks a year that farmers pay into “checkoff” funds designated to promote their products (think “Got Milk?”).

One of the big bones of contention is Country of Origin Labeling (COOL), which smaller-scale producers in the US want and larger-scale corporations with murkier supply chains vehemently oppose.

Here’s a good op-ed by a P-O’d white Georgia cattleman.
